CM Inaugurates Rs 31 Cr Rangil Water Supply Scheme:
 
Srinagar, Mar 15: The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that his government was determined to restore Srinagar’s pristine glory. “Our government is determined to restore the old glory of Srinagar city which was ignored during last several years in all respects” Omar said, after inaugurating Rs 31 crore Rangil Water Supply Scheme at Palpora here. “I believe in work rather than mere announcements,” Omar said. He complimented the Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, for successfully launching the scheme and working seriously on it to provide portable drinking water to Srinagar and also revival of old Chatabal Weir. Omar said Rs 30 crore were allotted this year to macadamize Srinagar roads. “Adequate funds for the next fiscal would be earmarked to complete macadamization of remaining roads in the city,” he added. Omar announced Rs 40 lakh for drainage from Shalteng to Maloora and its adjoining areas. “Three hundred plots will be developed for the displaced families coming under road widening work from Chatabal to Parimpora,” he said, adding that “No allotee will be allowed to sell the alloted plot. Shop owners coming under road widening will be rehabilitated. I don’t want to render anybody jobless,’ he added. The Chief Minister said a large number of educated youth were unemployed but observed that the government cannot provide employment to everyone. “It becomes necessary to create avenues in the private sector also,” he added. Omar reiterated his government’s commitment to up hold human rights. “We want to regain the trust of people,” he said. Referring to the arrest of BSF Commandant, R K Birdi, in connection with the killing of Nishat teenager Zahid Farooq, Omar said, “It is for the first time in last 21-years that any security agency has handed over its officer to our police for investigation.” Referring to the recently announced rehabilitation policy, Omar said, “Coalition is committed to rehabilitate those youth who had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) and are living in miserable condition in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur. We succeeded to convince Central government to rehabilitate them. We will ensure they return and live a dignified life,” he said. Earlier, Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, appreciated the Chief Minister for taking the state towards peace and development. Taj said that all efforts would be initiated to restore River Jehlum’s pristine glory. “Chatabal Weir Project will also be completed shortly and hoped it will become attraction for tourists during summer, particularly to have a boat ride from Zero bridge to Chatabal weir through downtown and will provide them an opportunity for sight-seeing of the old city,” Taj said. He said Rs 2200 crore project had been submitted to the Centre for flood protection works and first installment was expected very soon. Others who were present on the occasion included advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul, Chief Minister’s Political Advisor Devender Singh Rana, MLA Batmaloo, Irfan Shah, MLC Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Commissioner/Secretary Planning and Development, B BVyas and other officers of ERA, PHE and irrigation.
